Many students join Maryville University’s online programs with prior college experience. We welcome those who bravely choose to continue their education — and we do our best to make the transition as easy as possible.

You’re considered a transfer student if you have:

  • Taken courses from a college or university after graduating from high school or receiving a GED certificate. Transfer credits are accepted only from regionally accredited colleges or universities.
  • Gained college credits through College Level Education Program (CLEP), Advanced Placement (AP) courses, DSST Exams, or International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
  • Earned an associate degree from a regionally accredited college and are interested in completing your baccalaureate  degree.
  • Completed a college degree and are pursuing a second undergraduate degree.
  • Completed courses in the military.

Undergraduate Transfer Admission Requirements

The following qualifications are required for all undergraduate transfer students:

  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for most programs. Students with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 may be considered for provisional admission. Some healthcare programs require a minimum of 2.5, so please check with your enrollment advisor for program-specific  requirements.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended.
  • An official high school transcript if you have fewer than 60 transfer hours (applicable to the degree) from a regionally accredited  school.
  • International students: English language requirements will differ by program. Reach out to an enrollment advisor or review the requirements specific to your program of  interest.
  • Military students: Your Joint Services Transcript will need to be submitted for any courses completed during time spent in the  military.

Graduate Transfer Admission Requirements

The following qualifications are required for graduate transfer student admission:

  • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for most programs. Some exceptions are available and some programs may review for provisional admission for students who fall below the minimum requirement. Speak to your enrollment advisor to see if you qualify.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended. (Transcript requirements differ by program. Reach out to your enrollment advisor for guidance, as not all programs require all transcripts; School of Business and master’s in health administration require undergraduate transcripts from only the degree-granting institution. All transcripts from graduate coursework are required.)
  • Up to six credits from a regionally accredited institution can be transferred into a master’s  program.
  • International students: English language requirements will differ by program. Reach out to an enrollment advisor or review the requirements specific to your program of  interest.
  • Military students: Your Joint Services Transcript will need to be submitted for any courses completed during time spent in the  military.

Transfer your credits with ease — we’ll request your transcripts for you

As a service to our students, Maryville University requests official transcripts from previously attended institutions on your behalf at no additional cost.* That means there’s one less task on your to-do list. This process also speeds up the admission process and helps us ensure you get credit for the work you’ve already completed.

*Note: You may opt out of this service by selecting “Do not authorize” when prompted during the application process. In some cases, institutions may not allow us to request transcripts on your behalf, so you may need to acquire and pay for transcripts on your own.

Transcript Tips

Our enrollment advisors are here to help whenever you have questions, but here are some tips to make the process easier:

  • Request your transcripts online and early (this includes military transcripts). Doing this electronically can expedite the process, as sending transcripts via regular mail can take significantly longer.
  • Transferring fewer than 60 eligible credits from a regionally accredited school? You will also need to provide proof of high school graduation or GED. Consider going directly to the school district during the summer season to save time.
  • Be aware of holiday breaks that may cause delays in obtaining transcripts.

Undergraduate transfer students will need transcripts from every college attended — even if you took just one class. And remember, Maryville will consider applicants for provisional admission, which can help offset past academic performance.

How many credits will transfer?

Knowing how many of your credits will transfer toward your undergraduate degree can play a big part in your decision-making process. Here are a couple of guidelines that can help you get a better idea of what to expect:

  • Generally, if you earn 100-level credits with a grade of C- or better at a regionally accredited institution, they will be accepted as transfer credit. Non-remedial coursework is not accepted.
  • A minimum of 128 credit hours (129 credit hours for BSN-C) are required, and all degree requirements must be met to complete a bachelor’s degree at Maryville University. Sixty credit hours must be completed at a four-year institution, and the last 30 credit hours must be taken at Maryville. In addition, at least half of the required major/minor credit hours must be earned at Maryville.
  • Some programs validate certain licenses or training programs that can then transfer as credit hours toward the degree. For example: Students applying to the online BSNC program receive 40 credits for validation of their RN license. These are considered transfer credits and are not charged for  tuition.

How do military credit transfers work?

It’s important to us that military personnel receive credit for all the work they’ve completed while serving our country.

Maryville’s partnership with the American Council on Education (ACE) allows us to evaluate your military courses — and transfer them for college credits (up to 30 credits) for Joint Services Transcripts (Navy, Marine Corps, Army). If you’re a student from Community College of the Air Force, you’ll also have the opportunity to have your courses evaluated as college credits.

The American Council on Education (ACE) CREDIT® Registry and Transcript System allows you to maintain a record of completed ACE-reviewed education as well as order official transcripts.

The Community College of the Air Force is a federally chartered, degree-granting institution that serves the U.S. Air Force’s enlisted force.

The Joint Services Transcript serves as a helpful tool to validate a service member’s or veteran’s military occupational experience and training along with the corresponding ACE college credit recommendations.

Maryville operates on a rolling admission policy, which means applications are reviewed as soon as we receive the required documentation and may be processed until the beginning of each term. You may apply as early as one year ahead of when you actually plan to enroll. Some programs, however, have limited capacity; therefore, early application is encouraged.
