Artificial intelligence means real career growth

The metaverse. The “internet of things.” Augmented reality. Automation. Driverless cars. Robotics. Enhanced security and modeling. These are just a few of the innovations, technologies, and trends in which companies are investing as they prepare for a more tech-forward future. And they’re all powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and related tools and concepts.

There are boundless opportunities to discover in AI. In fact, LinkedIn listed AI practitioners among its top 15 “Jobs on the Rise” for 2021.* Yet even as this field is set to expand dramatically, experts project a shortage of qualified AI professionals and practitioners — a talent gap that some firms worry could potentially slow innovation and lead to other unexpected issues.** Businesses and organizations operating in the field need brave AI practitioners and experts to step up and take the lead.

With your 100% online Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence from Maryville University, you can help meet that need as you prepare to thrive in the future of AI. Maryville is a leader in tech-forward, future-focused education, and we’re here to help you learn the concepts and techniques to develop and operate state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and machine learning tools, apply critical thinking and leadership skills, and help build a more technologically advanced world.

Companies are investing heavily in AI.

Businesses worldwide invested some $342 billion in artificial intelligence solutions in 2021, a growth of 15% from the year before. And the industry continues to expand: That number is projected to reach half a trillion dollars by 2024.*

The investment is a wide-reaching and worthwhile one. In 2021, about 74% of businesses surveyed by machine intelligence company Appen said they had invested at least $500,000 in some kind of machine learning or AI technology, representing a 55% increase in AI spending from the year before.** In 2020, about two-thirds of businesses that used AI saw increases in revenue directly related to their efforts, with particular success in areas of operation such as marketing and sales, strategy and corporate finance, and supply chain management. †

AI professionals are in demand.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that STEM-related careers will grow at twice the average pace for all occupations between 2019 and 2029, owing in part to an increased investment in technologies like AI and machine learning. Yet there stands to be a shortage of qualified professionals in the field, which could hamper innovation and even pose risks to cybersecurity and national security.*

There are plenty of lucrative opportunities in AI. At Maryville, our goal is to help you prepare for state-of-the-art careers in quickly developing fields like AI — and for careers that don’t even exist yet. While salaries vary depending on location and experience, your Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence can help you qualify for financially rewarding jobs like AI analyst ($108,777)**, AI engineer ($164,769)**, natural language processor ($123,974)**, and computer and information research scientist ($126,830)†.

It’s about more than technology.

AI can be a financially rewarding and technologically fascinating career, but modern professionals in the field might find it to be emotionally rewarding as well. Areas like security, healthcare, and even environmental sustainability stand to be big areas of growth for AI in the coming years, meaning you can effect positive change as you pursue an exciting and future-focused career. In fact, the UN reports that about 93% of its stated environmental goals can be impacted by or achieved using artificial intelligence.*

Increasingly, businesses and organizations are focusing on ethical uses and implementations of AI technology, and it’s projected that as soon as 2023, responsible use of AI will be a requirement for most relevant careers.** At Maryville, we designed our program with these trends in mind, so you’ll have the chance to study responsible practices and ethical use of this powerful technology.
